What is the function of a written text vs. storytelling or oral literature?
What is a poem? How do you define poetry?
What types of poetry did you hear in your childhood?
What is the function of poetry? (Feel free to imagine poetry in all its variations: on the page, on the stage, in rap, in commercials, etc.)

On a witten text the author give us more details about their fellings because they tell us, but on a oral telling story we know what are the autors feelings by the tone he or she gives to the story.
ReplyDeleteOn my childhood I hear poems about the beauty of Puerto Rico and also some religious poems.

The written word, from my understanding is used to tell long stories, but in oral tradition they use it to tell things that have happend but in a short way.
ReplyDeleteTo me a poem is art. It is something you put ur feelings into, you let the reader what u think about a certain topic, or show them how something makes you feel.

I have heard bombas, which are a traditional kind of poems in here for this time of year, also i have heard decimas.
In Poetry you can express yourself or tell stories. One example is a band called Dragonforce. I remember a song talking about the chaos in the world, and how even though evil is taking over they will fight back until they are free from it.
For me poem is just another way to express yourself. Love, hate, sorrow all of these things can be expressed in poetry.
ReplyDeletePoetry have never gotten my attention. I may have heard poetry in my childhood but I didn't pay attention to it.
That comment up there was me. I forgot to put my name on it.

Written text inmortalizes up to some point the oral literature and it also helps to propagate the messages faster. A poem is a collection of words that say something but an a beautiful way. Poetry dedicates itself to find the most unimaginable things in life and make them interesting and beautiful. I hear a lot of tongue twisters when I was young.
